TIME TO PLAY AND PRACTICE!

Take a walk with your child around the neighborhood and look for homes with dogs or a pet owner out walking a dog. Is the dog behind a fence? Is the dog on a leash? Does the dog look aggressive? Talk with your child about the safety tips learned. If you are comfortable doing so and feel safe, ask the dog owner if you and your child may pet the dog. Follow all the dog safety rules.

Look around your neighborhood for wildlife. Discuss with your child how they might see other wild animals near home like birds, deer, rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks. Small or big wild animals should never be approached or touched. Stay away because it’s safe for you and the animal. Enjoy nature from a distance.

Be Careful! Never scream and run away from a dog. Remain calm. Most dogs you meet will be with their owner and are gentle, but remember a strange dog can be aggressive and hurt you.
