The Euclid Police have arrested two suspects in the fatal shooting at Sims Park Beach on July 17th, during a resident-organized “Stop the Violence” rally. The shooting resulted in the death of 19 year old Euclid Resident Phillip Banks and a severe injury to an unnamed 12 year old male Euclid resident. The juvenile victim is currently hospitalized and recovering from a gunshot wound to his back. No further details of his condition are available.
Suspect #1 is Euclid resident Gerard Anthony Jones Jr. (DOB: 04-23-97). Jones was arraigned in the Euclid Municipal Court on July 20th on a charge of Involuntary Manslaughter (ORC 2903.04B). Bond was set at $200,000.00 (cash/surety).
Suspect #2 is a 17 year old male Cleveland resident. His identity is not being released. The juvenile suspect was turned over to the custody of the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center earlier today to face felony charges for Aggravated Murder (ORC 2903.01) and other related charges.
